Youth Martial Arts

Our mission is to develop Character, Confidence, and Leadership within each of our students. We develop these life skills through positive reinforcement and encourage each student to reach their full potential.

Life Skills

East Coast Martial Arts students are required to write an essay before testing for a black belt.  The following essay was written by Ricky, a 9 year old boy who started training at East Coast when he was 4.

I was 4 years old when I started Karate.  I could not speak correctly or say many of my sounds and letters.  My pre-school teacher said that I would not be ready for school because I could not speak well or get my thoughts across to others.  I could not concentrate and they said I couldn’t keep up with the other kids.

When I started taking Karate at East Coast, I learned to concentrate and sit quietly.  I have learned that Karate was more than kicking and fighting.  Karate has taught me three important things that will stay with me for the rest of my life.

One is respect, respect for myself and others.  Two is discipline.  I had to discipline myself to remember and learn self defense, one steps and katas.  I use discipline and concentration in my school work as well as other sports.  Having self discipline can also help you concentrate to make learning easier.  Learning was never easy for me and this has really helped me.  Now my teachers are surprised at my grades in school.  The third important part of Karate is manners.  I show manners by saying “thank you” and “please.”  Karate has helped me set goals for myself even though I am only 9 years old.  I have looked forward to testing for my black belt.  Being tested for a higher rank also gives you self confidence.  I have made many friends and karate is a lot of fun.  Karate class has helped me in school and in other sports.  Karate is a very important part of my life.

Adult Martial Arts

Adults enjoy a variety of training at East Coast Martial Arts including self-defense, kickboxing, traditional martial arts, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, boxing and MMA Fit. Through martial arts, adults learn self-defense, increase their fitness, lose weight, get healthy, build confidence, and more! Each class begins and ends with a bow as a simple sign of respect for the art, those sharing their knowledge, and each other. It reminds us that we are all on the same team no matter what your goal. This sign of respect is the foundation of all our programs.
